This
is an antique Bijar rug. Bijar rugs get their name from a market center
in Northwestern Iran by the name of Bijar. This market place has a long
standing history of being a major weaving area, producing some of the
most finely crafted rugs.
This
Bijar rug has a medallion with an intricate floral design that is in
the center of a field of stylized vines. Some of the colors used in this
rug are tomato red, navy blue, and sandy yellow. The stylized tree of
life motif in the center of the rug is enclosed by a herati border.
